Default Bad New Engine `Need HELP!!

If you haven't even started this engine, you don't know if you have an air leak or not. My daddy taught me "never try to fix something... that ain't broke"! Not every engine has this air leak your speaking of. If your engine won't shut off, then and only then, fix the problem. And stop flippin that prop until your ready to crank it. I know it feels neat, we all have done it, but it's not good for the engine. No matter what the fellow at Tower told ya!

I added oil and hand cranked just a few times.
I did not run the engine yet.
I removed the plug and added more oil.
Did the same again and it loosened up more so I backed the prop off CW then hit it with the electric starter a few times.
I held a rag over the plug hole to catch any oil.
It feels good now and no i'm not playing with the prop.
Thanks for the tip on the air leak.
QUESTION!!
They sent me 2 spare head gaskets.
Do these engines blow that copper gasket often?

I've got three Tower 46's.

One of them has a hundred flights on it. I never did anything to the engine. It has the air leak. The head isn't purple anymore. I never bothered with the head gaskets.

.
I don't understand why you would want to run the engine with an air leak?
Wouldn't it be better to have the leak sealed then tune the engine for peak power?

Ok, it may be a bit over the top, but I even used a heat gun on a couple of really tight ABC engines to loosen them up a little before starting them the first time... Just heating the head a little seemed to do the trick, they started just fine by hand after doing that...

Anyone done this too?
.Well this engine needed something more like a flame thrower to loosen it up.
It was tight from Bottom to the top.
Only when I added oil did it syart to loosen up

Go ahead and break the engine in. By what you are telling us it sounds ok. Break in the engine by the manufacturers instructions. I have one of these engines and after breakin you couldn't ask for a sweeter running engine. My air leak sealed off after using about a gallon or two of fuel with castor in it. The only thing that the air leak affects is the engine turning off. Thats all. Avoid idle bar glowplugs with this engine they mess up the throttle transition. OS A3, OS #8, and Tower Power Plug work best. Good luck.

So far bad weather keeps me from going out running the engine.
I did read the instructions and saw where they really go through fuel line pinching and needle valve adjustments until you get it to hum just right
